Robert Douglas received his early training in Art from Gary Mueller and continued his education at the University of Oregon. There he studied with Juan Zach, Max Nixon and Laverne Krause, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Art in December of 1970.

After a move to Los Angeles, he had a one-man show of paintings and drawings in the Los Angeles County Library system.  He also did promotional graphics for California Institute of the Arts.

Upon returning to Oregon in nineteen seventy two he began his teaching career as an Art instructor and art coordinator for the Coquille School District.  In nineteen seventy-five he returned to Portland where he was the Art and Photography instructor for Sherwood High School.  The move back to Portland also brought Graduate study at Portland State University with James Hansen in Sculpture and bronze casting.  While studying with Hansen he was a member of the installation crew for Hansen’s Crescent Fountain for the Salem Civic Center.  In July of two thousand and two he retired from teaching in order to work full time in the studio.
